Library / Learning Center

The philosophy of our Library in the Northbrook Campus and Learning Center in the Skokie Campus is to help children explore what stories do to enrich their lives, to encourage students to begin a life-long relationship with literature, to develop a community of readers who share their love of books with each other, to teach children library information and technology, and to help them learn how to find information to answer their important questions.

Our school librarian and Learning Center director are passionate about books and literature and are able to guide our students on their individual journeys with both fiction and non-fiction literature.  They use literature to connect our students to history, to help them develop empathy for others, and to motivate them to do good in the world. In the middle and upper grades children explore the many chapter books that connect them with significant themes related to their lives and the lives of others.

Both the library and Learning Center are stocked with the best books available in children’s literature in a bright, warm, and cozy setting. In the middle and upper grades children explore the many chapter books that connect them with significant themes related to their lives and the lives of others.

Through author visits, book fairs, special library and Learning Center programs, the students at Solomon Schechter Day School learn that books and authors are companions they will connect with throughout their lives. Books and libraries are one of the many gifts we give children at Schechter!

A Love of Jewish Life
When I think about Schechter, I realize that Schechter not only provides a strong foundation of Jewish knowledge, it also fosters a love of Jewish life.  As I get older, I realize the huge impact that Schechter has had on my life - who I am as a person and who I am as a Jew. Many of my closest friends are still my Schechter friends. It's great to see so many students today having the chance to experience what I had as a Schechter student.
