Why Schechter?

  • Schechter is steeped in a tradition of rigor and scholarship.
  • Schechter instills in students a strong foundation of Jewish values and traditions so that they are able to confront life’s most complex moral and intellectual challenges.
  • Our dual language and combined General and Judaic Studies curriculum trains students to think in multi-dimensional ways, encouraging connections across a variety of disciplines and perspectives.
  • Schechter brings together students and families from 30 communities and 40 synagogues throughout the Chicago area.  Our families originate from the United States, Israel, Chile, Argentina, Russia, Ethiopia, and more.  Our students and families value the richness and diversity of  our Schechter community.
  • Schechter is more than a school; it’s a second home for our students and families.  We encourage entire families to explore their Jewish identity along side their child(ren) in an open and accepting environment.
  • This year Schechter celebrates our 50th anniversary! We are proud of our more than 2,500 graduates who have become doctors, engineers, researchers, scientists, lawyers, rabbis, politicians, teachers, artists, cantors, professors, comedians, journalists, and many other professions.
  • Our graduates and their families form life-long relationships that strengthen and support each other through the years.
  • This year, we welcomed 75 children of our own alumni and we look forward to this number growing in the years ahead.
  • Each of our school principals are parents of current and/or former Schechter students, and one of our principals is also a Schechter alum!
  • Something remarkable happens at Schechter every day!

A Strong Academic Foundation
As a Schechter graduate, I wanted my children to have the same intimate, nurturing environment that I had as a child at Schechter, as well as the strong academic foundation, connection to Israel, and love of Jewish life. It's wonderful to see how our children have thrived at Schechter and how well-prepared they are for high school. We are also proud of the people they have become -- their connection to Judaism and their values.
