Innovation and Creativity

The Arts

The Arts and culture are important aspects of Jewish and American life, and Solomon Schechter Day School is committed to increasing opportunities for all students to participate in and appreciate the Arts.

Visual Arts

Visual arts are a vital, exciting, and integral part of student life at Solomon Schechter. Children are encouraged to explore, discover and create in a variety of media including drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, and graphic design. They use art materials and techniques to create works relating to Jewish and American holidays, history, science, famous artworks, and more.

Music & Choir

From the moment children enter Solomon Schechter, they are immersed in a world filled with music. Throughout their Schechter experience we strive to foster a life-long appreciation and enjoyment of music in our students. Our program integrates our Hebrew and general studies programs, and often emphasizes the holidays and Israel.

Band

Schechter's outstanding band program provides a wonderful opportunity for students to develop a musical talent, participate in a group activity, and experience the thrill of performing. 5th-8th graders are exposed to both Judaic and secular music, and can choose from 5th Grade Beginning Band, 6th Grade Wind Ensemble, 7th and 8th Grade Symphonic Band, Jazz Band and Musical Band.

Dance

At Solomon Schechter Day School, dance is a way of coming together as a community. Students receive formal instruction in dance once a week with their class, with a focus on Israeli Folk Dance. Our dance troupe, the Schechter Rakdanim, is focused on the performance of Israeli Folk Dance.

Performing Arts

There's no business like show business...and there's no musical like a Sager School musical! For close to two decades, Schechter's talented students sing and dance their way into the hearts of our Schechter community. The musical is open to all 5th-8th graders who can participate in the cast, band, or crew. The full-scale musical production, which includes production numbers in both English and Hebrew, is performed at a state-of-the-art theater.

Beyond the Judaic education, Schechter provided the foundation for me to discover my passion for math and science. The teachers encouraged my curiosity and motivated me to pursue the subjects that I enjoy.
