When you think of school lunches, the words “delicious” and “gourmet” typically don’t come to mind. Yet, with Schechter’s B’tayavon (bon appetit) Lunch program, that’s exactly what our students receive. All meals are certified Kosher, using CRC-approved hechshered ingredients. Lunches are prepared in our Kosher Kitchen, under the supervision of Rabbi Kenneth Berger.
Each day, we offer a choice of two Kosher entrees: dairy-based on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and meat-based on Tuesdays and Thursdays. In addition, there is always a homemade soup and salad bar stocked with the freshest vegetables, fruits, hummus, eggs, tuna salad, turkey and salami (Tuesday/Thursdays), cottage, mozzarella and cheddar cheese (Monday/Wednesday/Fridays).
B’tayavon is led by Shoshy Mor, Food Services Manager, and Etti Darmoni, Head Chef. Each have more than 20 years of experience in operating kosher kitchens, and ran the Garden Fresh lunch program here at Schechter for the 5 years prior to B’tayavon. Having Hebrew-speaking, Schechter employees who know, and care about the children serving their food, makes the lunch experience even better.
I really love that my child wants to go to school every day! -Schechter Parent
